Tom, on the one hand, I’m entirely sympathetic to your point of view. I’ve written multiple articles about the tremendous engineering challenges — most likely insurmountable, in my view — that stand in the way of the implementation of EVTOL vehicles.

On the other hand, it’s an undeniable fact that there is a tremendous amount of capital being devoted to building these things. And it’s telling, in my view, that not only are some of the biggest aerospace companies investing in the vehicles, they’re investing in the operational know-how that will be required. To me, it’s a reason to take the industry seriously. That was the underlying point of the article.

As for the idea that helicopters burn a lot of fuel, and hence contribute disproportionately to climate change: to me, that’s an important issue, but a separate one.
